ACCESSING-IN-PATIENT CARE
Welcome to University College Hospital, where we provide top-notch healthcare services with over 30 wards and more than 800 beds. Our wards are easily identifiable by a descriptive terminology derived from the Wing [East, West, South-East, South-West, West-West, and North-West] and the floor [Ground, first, second, third, and fourth] on which the ward is situated. For example, South-East 3 [SE3] indicates a location in the South-East Wing on the third floor.
Entry into the Wards:
Following assessment in our clinics or emergency points, you will be admitted to the ward as directed by your doctor. Patients who undergo surgical operations in our theatres or deliver babies in the Labour Ward are transferred directly to the wards, often after a period of recuperation in the Recovery Room/Intensive Care Unit.
Ward Admission:
Once the doctor recommends admission, the nurse informs the assigned ward, and you are expected to pay the necessary fees detailed by the nurse at the point of admission. Fees can be paid at any pay-point closest to you. We also offer a Fixed Admission Deposit facility where you can deposit a certain amount to cover care for a specified period. This helps ensure the patient's needs are covered without disturbing relatives. Inquire further details from the nurse if interested.
When Admitted:
Essential items for in-patient admission include a change of clothes and toiletries. Valuables are best left at home, as UCH is not responsible for any loss. Self-administered medications are not allowed; hand over all medications to the nurses.
Meals:
Hospital policy prohibits bringing food from home; meal tickets are part of the entry fees. Strict hygiene measures are maintained in meal preparation to ensure health and appropriate foods are served.
Visiting Hours:
General visiting hours are from 11 am to 12 noon and 5 pm to 6 pm daily. Only two persons per patient are given visiting tallies, and visitors are urged to adhere strictly to the policy to avoid inconvenience.
While on Admission:
- Follow the instructions of the managing team.
- Check with the nurse before using any electrical appliance.
- Seek help if feeling weak and your relative is unavailable.
- Dispose of materials in the appropriate places.
Your Rights and Responsibilities:
Displayed on our wards, familiarize yourself with your rights and responsibilities as a patient. Chaplaincy services are available for spiritual counseling and support; inform your managing team if interested.
Be assured that our management and staff are dedicated to ensuring your comfort and a speedy recovery during your stay. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.
