September 25, 2019uchInformationprdepartmentUncategorized

As designated in 2009 by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Council in Istanbul, Turkey, 25th September marks the annual World Pharmacists Day. The theme of this year’s event is “Safe and Effective Medicine for All.” According FIP, this years theme aims to highlight the key role that pharmacists play in protecting patient safety through improved medicine use and reduced medication errors

FIP encourages pharmacists to use this day to organise activities that promote and advocate for the role of the pharmacist in improving health in every corner of the world.

To flag off this year’s “World Pharmacist Day,” the Department of pharmacy, UCH, led by the Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Mr. Adeyemi Oshiyemi paid a courtesy call on the Hospitals Chief Medical Director this morning.

Following the visit, Mr. Oshiyemi noted that the hospital’s Drug Information Unit shall today reach out to the general public on the importance of consulting a pharmacist for all drug-related matters. According to him “people have to abstain from self-medication and possess sufficient knowledge on the use of medicine” He also stressed the importance of following instructions from the pharmacist as to how to use and store medicine, and what to do when side effects are experienced.
