Outstanding achievements

After my residency training in Neurology, I benefited from neuro-epidemiology fellowship at the National Institute of Communicative Disorders and Stroke (NINCDS), NIH which adequately prepared me for community-based studies. I have thus been involved with cross-cultural, collaborative studies for over two decades investigating the epidemiology of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in African Americans as compared with Yoruba Africans. I have served as Investigator, Director of Project for the Ibadan site and Co-Principal Investigator during the seven waves of the study. I was also an Investigator on the Ibadan Study of Ageing which has provided data on the epidemiology of disability and dementia in elderly population resident in Southwest Nigeria. I am well acquainted with the challenges and demands of community based studies having participated in various aspects including consensus diagnosis, formulation of hypotheses and data presentation at scientific meetings.
