The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, MBBS (Ib.), Cert. Gastro (Tel-Aviv), MSc. (Ib.), Ph.D  (Ib.), FUICC, FWACP, FACG, FRCP (Glasg), MNIM, FIPM (UK) as the Chief Medical Director of  the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He succeeded Professor Temitope Alonge whose tenure ended on 28th February, 2019.

The appointment which took effect from 1st March, 2019, for a term of 4 years in the first instance, was conveyed vide a letter Ref. DHS.931/1/281 of 24th January, 2019 signed by the Honourable Minister of Health, Professor I. F. Adewole.

Born on 17th December, 1961, Professor J. A. Otegbayo attended lla Grammar School, lla-Orangun between 1977-1978, Methodist Grammar School, Otan-lle from 1978-1980 and Command Secondary School, Kaduna between 1980-1983. He obtained the MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan in November, 1989; a Certificate in Immunology, the University of Ibadan in 2001 and Master of Science Degree in Chemical Pathology/Immunology of the same University in year 2003. He was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy by the University of Tel-Aviv, Israel in 2002 and also has a Ph.D degree in Chemical Pathology/Immunology from the University of Ibadan in 2011. Professor Otegbayo is a Fellow of the West African College of physicians (FWACP) 1998, and Fellow of the Union Internationale Contre Cancer/International Union Against Cancer (UICC); a Fellow of the American college of Gastroenterology (FACG) in June, 2009; Fellow, Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow) in 2015. He was promoted Professor of Medicine in the University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 2008.

He was Sub-Dean, Undergraduate, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (2002-2004). He was appointed Director of Clinical Services Research and Training and Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the Hospital for two terms from 2010-2014. He served as World Bank Consultant to the Ministry of Health & Sanitation of Sierra Leone for establishment of Post graduate Medical Training from January 2015 to November, 2016. He was Head of Department, Internal Medicine, Babcock University/Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Illishan, Ogun State from 2015 to 2016. He was the pioneer Chief Medical Director, University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital Complex, Freetown from December 2016- December 2017. He was Head, Department of Medicine, UI/UCH, Ibadan from 2018 till he was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital.

Professor Otegbayo is a quiet, humble and firm person with commitment to the common good of this hospital. He was President, Association of Resident Doctors, UCH, Ibadan (1995-1996), National Vice President, National Association of Resident Doctor of Nigeria (1996-1997); National Publicity Secretary/Public Relations Officer, MDCAN (2003-2005); Chairman, MDCAN, UCH Branch (2006 – 2008); and member, State Executive Council, NMA, Oyo State (2006-2008).

He is a member of several learned societies and professional bodies locally and internationally and has attended several academic professional conferences locally and internationally. He is an international collaborator, reviewer and member, editorial boards of local and international journals as well as an External Examiner to many Universities within and outside the country.

Professor Otegbayo is a renowned researcher with over 100 publications to his credit. A Consultant physician & Gastroenterologist, he is happily married to Dr. (Mrs.) Bolanle Otegbayo, an Associate Professor of Food Science and Technology, Bowen University, Iwo, Nigeria and the marriage is blessed with two children.

Dr. V. I Akinmoladun was born on 7th November, 1965. He attended St Thomas’ Acquinas College, Akure from 1977 to 1982 and Boys’ Academy, Lagos in 1983. He qualified as a Dental Surgeon in July 1989 having obtained BCh.D from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He obtained Fellowships in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons, England and the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland respectively in 1997. He became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in 2002.  Dr. Akinmoladun is a Consultant Oral Maxillofacial surgeon with interest in cleft surgery and orofacial tumours. He is an active member of the UCH branch of MDCAN where he once served as an assistant General Secretary, the NMA where he was once the continuing Medical Educator for the south west for four years.

Dr. Akinmoladun is an individual with calm disposition and one committed to excellence. He has attended many local and international conferences and seminars. He is a renowned researcher with several publications to his credit. He is a senior lecturer in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Ibadan, Ibadan and served as the Deputy Chairman, MAC (Clinical Services) with effect from 29th February, 2016 until his current appointment. He is happily married to Dr. Mrs. Janet Adetinuke Akinmoladun, a consultant radiologist and they are blessed with children.

Following the approval of the Board of Management at its extraordinary meeting of 13th January, 2020, I have the pleasure to inform you of the appointment of Mr. Stephen Olubusayo Oladejo as the 8th Director of Administration & Secretary to the Board of Management of the University College Hospital, Ibadan with effect from 21st January, 2020.

Mr. S.O. Oladejo was born in Ibadan on 7th November, 1967. He attended St. Paul’s Primary School, Atapa, Ibadan from 1974 to 1980. He proceeded to Community High School, Atapa, Ibadan from 1980 to 1985 and Moslem Grammar School, Odinjo, Ibadan between 1985 and 1986. He subsequently obtained the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Banking & Finance from The Polytechnic, Ibadan in 1988 and 1994 respectively. Mr. Oladejo holds a Master Degree in Managerial Psychology from the University of Ibadan and B.Sc in Political Science with 2nd Class Upper Division from the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji, Arakeji, Osun State. For additional administrative qualification, he attended the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos where he obtained the Certificate in Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course (PSLC 27) in 2017.

He was first appointed in the Hospital as Clerical Officer on the 28th September, 1988. He was promoted to the post of Executive Officer on 1st July, 1991 and became Senior Executive Officer on 1st July 1998. He was thereafter converted to the Administrative Cadre as an Administrative Officer II on 1st November 2000 and rose through the ranks to the post of Deputy Director of Administration on 1st January, 2016.

He is a member of the following professional associations: Fellow, Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria (IHSAN); Full Member, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and Full Member, Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered) [NIM]. He has also attended several workshops, conferences and seminars either as a participant or a facilitator.

The new Director of Administration is a seasoned HR Management Leader and expert, with excellent intellectual capacity, work experience and managerial prowess, an essential ingredient necessary to collaborate with the Chief Medical Director to efficiently run a 21st Century Teaching Hospital like UCH, Ibadan. He had been the Head of the six Divisions in the Directorate of Administration namely General Administration (October, 2008 – May, 2009), Total Quality Management (April, 2011 – January, 2012), Community Liaison Unit (February, 2012 – December 2015), Human Resource (December, 2015 – January, 2019), Hospital Services (January, 2019 – January, 2020) including Health Insurance Unit until June, 2019. A man of high integrity, proven capability, exemplary character and high intuition, Mr. Oladejo is very forthright and impeccable. He possesses a very strong mind; hence, he stands by the truth always.

Mr. Oladejo had shown signs of leadership very early in life. He was a School Prefect (Timekeeper, 1980) and Assistant Labour Prefect (1984) in his Primary and Secondary Schools respectively. He was the Financial Secretary, Association of Banking & Finance Students (1992 – 1994).

He was the Class President of MMP Students Association, U.I (1998/1999). He was the Publicity Secretary of IHSAN, Oyo State Branch (2006 – 2012). He was Financial Secretary of NIM, Bodija Chapter (2012 – 2014). He was the Chairman, CIPM, Oyo State Branch (2011 – 2013). He was Elected Governing Council Member of CIPM (2016 – 2019). He is currently the Chairman, School Governing Board, Community High School, Atapa, Ibadan since 2018.

In appreciation of his leadership strides and commitment to excellence, he is a recipient of several honours and distinctions which include: Letter of Commendation from NIPSS, Kuru, Jos, Letters of Commendation or Appreciation from UCH, Ibadan in 2015 and 2016 and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in April, 1995.

He is happily married to Mrs. Catherine O. Oladejo, Assistant Director of Nursing in the Department of Nuclear Medicine of this Hospital and the union is blessed with three children.

Born on 27th December, 1965, Dr. Adeoye obtained his MBBS degree from the University of Ilorin in 1992.  He undertook his Residency Training Programme in the Department of Medicine, University College Hospital, Ibadan and obtained the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians in Internal Medicine in 2006.  He also possesses the fellowship certificate in Cardiology from the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Madras Medical Mission in 2007.  He was appointed as Hospital Consultant Cardiologist from 2008 till 2012 when he was appointed as Honorary Consultant with effect from 1st July, 2012.

Dr. Adeoye obtained the M.Sc. degree in Epidemiology from the University of Ibadan in 2014.  He is a Fellow of many learned Societies which include the American College of Cardiology, European Society of Cardiology, International Society of Hypertension, Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Madras Medical Mission, India and the World Heart Federation.  He is also a member of the Nigerian Cardiac Society, Nigerian Hypertension Society and the Nigeria Medical Association.

Dr. Makanjuola, a Consultant Psychiatrist with the Hospital, is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

After his secondary school education in 1989 at the prestigious and famous Loyola College Ibadan where he came tops with eight Distinctions in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) Examination, Dr. Makanjuola was admitted to study Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. While in the University, he was a member of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Government (1996/97 session). He was also the Charge de affair of the Embassie Club University of Ibadan (93/94 session). In April 2003, Dr. Makanjuola emerged as the Best Candidate in the West Africa College of Physician (WACP), Faculty of Psychiatry Fellowship Examination.

Dr. Makanjuola is vastly engaged in the management of difficult-to-treat patients with complex social and clinical problems in General Psychiatry practice, with additional interest and experience in managing patients with alcohol and drugs addiction as well as working on innovative ways of extending service to hard-to-reach or neglected populations.

His area of interest has earned him the role of a Certified Trainer on Management of Addiction for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

He was the immediate past president of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), UCH branch and currently the First Vice President (VP-1) of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) having served previously as the Secretary-General of the Association (2015). He is also a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM)

He is actively involved in research with over 30 articles in reputable learned journals and he has won several Fellowships to attend international conferences in his field.

As the Deputy Chairman (MAC) Clinical Services, Dr. Makanjuola is keen on deploying good leadership and management skills in repositioning the Hospital’s health care system for excellent service delivery.


Mrs. Juliana Oluyemisi Matthew was born on 22nd August, 1966. She had her secondary education at Ajasse Ipo High School, Ajasse Ipo, Kwara State and Baptist High School, Ejigbo, Osun State respectively from 1979 to 1983. She proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti where she had her National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy in 1988 and 1991 respectively. In a bid to get more knowledge, she decided to further her education which led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, a degree she earned in 2013. In addition, she bagged a Postgraduate degree of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Financial Management option with effect from 2007.

Mrs. J. O. Matthew was appointed as Accountant Grade II in the Account Department with effect from 1st December, 1993. She rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Director with effect from 1st January, 2013. Subsequently, she assumed headship of the Finance & Accounts Department with effect from 23rd July, 2013, a position she has effectively occupied till date.

She is a prudent and hardworking Accountant, no wonder she is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a member of different professional bodies such as the Institute of Public Administration of Nigeria and Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria.

Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Obiajulu Onianwa was born on 19th October, 1964. She attended St. Maira Goretti Girls College, Benin City from 1976-1982. She thereafter proceeded to the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where she bagged her RN and RM certificates of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria in 1985 and 1988 respectively. In a bid to acquire more knowledge, she proceeded to the University of Ibadan for her Bachelor of Nursing Science Degree which she obtained in 1995. Thereafter, she bagged a Masters of Personnel Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 1997 and subsequently bagged her Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa in 2011.

Dr. (Mrs.) Onianwa was appointed as Staff Nurse in the Nursing Department with effect from 12th March 1989. She rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Nursing Officer with effect from 1st July, 2007 and was thereafter appointed as Deputy Director (Clinical Nursing) – Wards with effects from 11th January, 2011.

Mrs. M.A. Akintayo was born on the 26th June, 1965. She attended St. Anne’s School, Ibadan from 1977 to 1983 after which she proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife from 1984 to 1989 where she bagged a Bachelor degree in Medical Rehabilitation. As a result of her quest for knowledge, she proceeded for Masters Degree programme in Physiotherapy at the University of Ibadan and was awarded the certificate in 201. She is a member of the Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy.
Mrs. Akintayo was appointed As Physiotherapist in the Department of Physiotherapy with effect from 2nd January 1991. She rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Director (Physiotherapy) with effect from 1st August, 2018.

She assumed headship of Physiotherapy Department on 25th June 2013 in line with the decision of the Board of Management of the Hospital on rotational headship exposure in her professional career

Mrs. Olukemi Adesola Olateru-Olagbegi was born on 23rd April, 1965. She had her primary education at the Apostolic Central Primary School, Odo-Okun Modakeke, Osun State from 1970-1976 after which she proceeded to Modakeke High School, Modakeke, Osun State from 1977-1981.
In furtherance to her education, she bagged an Associate Certificate from the Institute of Medical Laboratory Technology of Nigeria in 1987 and became a fellow of the Institute in 1996. Thereafter, she went to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State for a Masters degree in Chemical Pathology with effect from 2007. She also possesses a Masters degree in Certificate from the University of Ibadan with effect from 7th March, 2016.

Mrs. Olateru-Olagbegi was appointed as Medical Laboratory Technologist II in the Department of Haematology with effect from 12th July, 1989. She rose through the ranks to the post of Principal Medical Laboratory Technologist with effect from 1st July, 2000, and was redesignated to the post of Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist with effect from 13th October, 2005. She rose through the ranks until she was appointed to the post of Deputy (Medical Laboratory Scientist) with effect from 19th March, 2010. She became the Deputy Director (Training) of the Centre for FMLS in this Hospital with effect from 19th May, 2014.

She was subsequently promoted to the post of Director (Medical Laboratory Scientist) with effect from 1st January, 2017.

Mrs. Olateru-Olagbegi has attended many local and international conferences and seminars which has led to wide exposure in her professional career.
