The Ibadan Branch and Oluyole Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers has thrown its support behind the Hospital’s bid to scale up its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some Engineers under the auspices of both branches recently repaired some damaged ventilator machines in the University College Hospital free of charge.

The association which was co-led by Chairmen of both branches, Engineer Wasiu Ajagbe (Ibadan) and Engineer Rasaq Jimoh (Oluyole), presented one of the repaired ventilator machines to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo who described them as ‘timely problem solvers.’

He added that the team which comprised mainly of Biomedical Engineers, have saved the Hospital huge sums of money that could have been used to invite foreign based engineers for the repair.

Otegbayo therefore lauded the gesture and affirmed that the ventilators will be put to optimal use in the management of COVID-19 patients.

Engineer Wasiu Ajagbe who spoke on behalf of the Ibadan branch while presenting one of the repaired ventilator machine stated that both branches have in the spirit of collaboration come together to provide support for the Hospital.

Similarly, Chairman of the Oluyole branch, Engineer Rasaq Jimoh asserted that Engineering is the application of science to solving problems.

According to him, “the COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of mind-driven solutions and as professionals we have come together to contribute our quota to reducing the crippling effect of the pandemic.”
